With this theme as inspiration, Margherita Matticari dreamt up Le Plateau and worked alongside our Studio to bring the creation to life.

Far more than a mere object, Le Plateau is a performance space where the Art of Enjoying Fine Wine takes center stage. The curtain is drawn with the opening of each bottle. Every glass plays its part and contributes to elegant and joyful moments to be shared together.

Let us set the scene: Le Plateau on the timbered terrace of a Venetian palazzo. Murano in the distance. A late summer afternoon. Time in a bottle.

Act I: The Object as a Volume.

Le Plateau is a piece of minimalist architecture. It was designed not simply as an object but as a creation of pure volume – an important nuance that makes all the difference in turning elegance into a true experience.

Act II: The Finest of Woods.

Made from only the finest cherry wood – carefully selected and crafted without artifice by our approved craftsmen – the base of the tray is slightly raised. This creates a floating effect, as though the stage for your glasses and bottle were levitating.

Act III: The Twist.

Where there’s a stage, there’s a backstage. If Le Plateau is the main stage, its two drawers take you behind the scenes where the magic happens. In fact, Le Plateau’s game of hide-and-seek with its two subtly concealed drawers is one of its most unique characteristics. One drawer is made of yellow lacquer and houses ten handmade leather coasters. The other is made of blue lacquer and contains five essential Wine Tools for any tasting ritual – all presented on a thick, full-grain leather mat and held in place by discreet wooden inserts. Each drawer opens effortlessly thanks to a clever push and pull mechanism. The choice of colors was no accident, with shades of luminous yellow and deep blue that bring the noble wood to life in stark relief. As the perfect finishing touch, the silver reflections of the Wine Tools light up the whole creation.

Act IV: Slice of Life.

For the pleasure of connoisseurs and collectors alike, Le Plateau naturally finds its place on your coffee table, near the fireplace, in the kitchen or cellar, on the sofa, in bed, and even on the deck of a three-masted sailboat or a traditional Venetian bragozzo.

The Bilame, the reference corkscrew since 1949

The ”Bilame”, twin blade corkscrew, extracts and leaves the cork intacts, even those whiwh are old and fragile. The cork is not pierced, and thus does not crumble. As the legend goes, the Bilame was the favourite tool of waiters in French ”bistrots”. Thanks to it, they could take a few sips from bottles and then replace corks without anyone noticing.

How to use it?

1. Slide the two blades down either side of the cork, starting with the longer one. 2. Press down, while moving the bottle opener back and forth, to insert each blade as far as possible. 3. Pull and rotate the handle to extract the cork from the neck.
